Soon enough, after you decide to start your business or blog you will face one of your first challenges Branding.
Branding is the key area that determines how your business is perceived by your customers/audience. It will help your products and services be identified and differentiated from your competitors. It communicates who you are as a business and what you stand for.
From my experience, I know the early stages of branding can be overwhelming.
Here are 4 easy ways to help you start building your dream business brand.
Know your business “Why” and create a vision around it
Understanding your business “why” and having a vision for your business will give you two essential tools – clarity and direction.
Knowing the real reasons and purpose behind your business will help you create a genuine and honest brand. This will make it easier for your customers to trust you and believe in your products. It will also help you direct your decisions and strategies so you can achieve your goals and be a success!
If you are not sure why you are creating a business and what you wish to accomplish, you can start by asking yourself the following questions:
- Why do I want to start a business? Do I want to live up to my potential and help people along the way? Do I want to achieve financial freedom?
- How is my business going to help my customers? How are my products or services going to add value and provide solutions?
- What are my business values? What is it that I truly believe and stand for?
Create and design brand elements that represent YOUR style and personality
Brand elements include things such as your business name, logo, website etc. Here you get to be creative and bring to life that dream business of yours by selecting colour schemes, fonts and designs that best represent you and your business.
Don’t be afraid to take your time researching and deciding on what you want your brand elements to look like. Chase inspiration and ideas from other businesses in your industry, fellow bloggers and my personal favourite Pinterest .
It is easy to get carried away with the variety of beautiful colours and designs available. If you’re anything like me, you may love pastels, black and whites and vibrant reds and blues. But it is important to simplify and achieve consistency.
It is very easy to confuse your customers if you’re not cohesive and consistent. You want your customers to recognise your brand and remember it. Make sure your website, business cards and social media channels integrate the same logo, colours, fonts and designs. Each element should look like they are extensions of each other, not a stand alone act.
By this stage, it is normal if you are feeling a bit scared. You may be afraid to make the wrong decisions and people not liking your choices.. but let me stop you there.
Take a deep breath and OWN IT. That’s right! trust yourself and your instincts. Remember you took the time to go through all the work I mentioned before and it is your dream you are creating not someone else’s. If people don’t get it it’s ok, they’ll most likely not be part of your target audience anyway.
Just be smart, do your research and I am sure you will do what is right for you, your customers and ultimately your business.
